The women’s rescue ministry of the DR Vision is part of the local church (IBEM) in San Pedro de Macorís. Known as the Jireh Project, the women’s ministry consists of a team of professional, discipled women from the Iglesia Bautista Evangélica de Macorís who are committed to discipleship and stewardship of God’s resources to help those in need and at risk. They offer family budgeting training as well as micro-business training and education. The ministry is made up of three components: outreach, sustainability and the MERCY Workshop.

Outreach:

At least once a week the team members of the MERCY Workshop spread out into the streets of San Pedro where there is a high concentration of women working as prostitutes. The majority of these women are mothers who have left their children locked in the house at night while they “work” and earn enough money to feed the family for a few days. The outreach team ministers to and shares the love of Christ with the the women we seek to serve.

Sustainability:

The ministry is organized in a way that takes advantage of the talents and skills of the IBEM women to teach and train rescued women and offer them an alternative so they can support themselves with dignity. The ministry also offers help to women in other situations of risk such as abandonment, neglect and abuse. The business of the workshop is what is used to sustain the outreach efforts and job creation of the ministry. MERCY Jewelry is a business that provides jobs for these rescued women. They make beautiful pieces of jewelry to sell, and receive a good salary that allows them to support their family. Proceeds from this business go into supporting the overall women’s ministry including the safehouse and other needs.

The MERCY Workshop

It’s a home for rescued women where they can work, learn, receive job skills training and discipleship. Ephesians 2:10 states that we are His workmanship. God is working through us as we work alongside the rescued women. Many members of Iglesia Bautista Evangélica de Macoris are involved in discipleship and bible studies in this ministry.
