Women's Ministry

The womens' ministry of DR Vision is a part of the local church here in San Pedro.  There are several facets to this ministry.  The overall ministry is called the Jireh Project and consists of a team of professional women from the Iglesia Bautista Evangelica de Macoris who are commited to discipleship and stewardship of God's resources to help those in need.  They offer family budgeting training as well as micro-business training.

Operation Scarlet Thread is a ministry where women of several local churches are involved in evangelism and discipleship to prostitutes on the streets of San Pedro and Juan Dolio.  The women on the streets are mothers who prostitute themselves to be able to feed their children.  On Thursday nights we witness to the women on the streets and offer them hope in Christ.  This ministry is organized in a way that takes advantage of the skills of the local church women to teach and train these women and offer them an alternative so they can support themselves with dignity.  The ministry also offers help to women in other situations of risk like abandonment, neglect and abuse.

Our goals for 2010:

  • Begin Bible clubs in the neighborhoods where the prostitutes live.  We want to reach young women and girls before they are lost to the streets.
  • Open a rescue home/training center for the women to receive skills training and education. This will be part of the Lifehouse rescue homes.
  • Begin reaching into the prisons to witness to the women.

Mercy Jewelry is a self-sustaining ministry that provides jobs for young women in risk situations.  They make beautiful pieces of jewelry sell.  They receive a fair salary and more proceeds go toward the overall women's ministry.

Garments of Praise is a small business that rents formal dresses and bridal gowns to the public here in San Pedro.  Proceeds from the dress rentals provide capital for micro-loans or crisis help to a family in need.

Scarlet Thread Haven is a home that has been opened to receive women off the street.  They are housed and discipled by loving women from local evangelical churches.  Education and job training is part of their time in the home.  While in the home they attend a local church and receive care and love from Dominican women.
